God states in today's passage that He won't hear their cries anymore. Yet yesterday and in other passages He is nearly begging for Judah to repent and avert the judgment. So what gives? Which is it?
There is a point of no return I suppose, however I see something else at work. God was looking for just a glimmer of hope that people would begin to turn around. Yet now that Judah is so far down the road in rebellion and Paganism, God can no longer be attentive to a "cry for help". Only true repentance will have any effect on Judah's plight.
It is easy to get in a "bind" and cry out for God's help, but there comes a time when He won't help. He so desperately wants to rescue me, but I am at a place in my walk where His requirement towards me is much deeper than trying to stay on the straight and narrow. My cry for help must be met with a heartfelt attitude of change and not just a desire to get out of trouble. The Lord is telling me that I am beyond that stage in my development. It must go deeper - surrendered more completely - more meaningful. I am good with that Papa. You are right. Teach me your ways!
