2 Samuel 6:14–15 (NIV84)
14 David, wearing a linen ephod, danced before the LORD with all his might, 15 while he and the entire house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouts and the sound of trumpets.

As tongue and cheek as this might be interpreted (what I am about to say), this is the roots of Pentecostal worship! It is obvious that the presence of God and His blessing needs to be celebrated! The propriety needs to be tossed away for another occasion! This is propriety! Thirty-thousand men and David and who knows how many women were dancing, playing music, worshipping and shouting with all their might! There it is, right from the Bible, evidence of off the charts worship!

2 Samuel 6:22 (NIV84)
22 I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes. But by these slave girls you spoke of, I will be held in honor.”

This was said after David was reviled by one of his wives. I wonder if David was being called, “out of order” because of his extravagant worship? If so, he said I will get crazier than this – undignified! He wanted to dance himself to humility!

I have a question: If God is giving us something that we don’t delight in and maybe don’t want as a replacement for our mourning, will be continue in our mourning?

Psalm 30:11–12 (NIV84)
11 You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
12 that my heart may sing to you and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give you thanks forever.
