I was questioned by God, my Lord, as I read today’s portion. I was reading how the people gave themselves in servitude to Pharaoh in order to get food. The said if they didn’t get food, they would die and what would be the point. What they meant was that they could either die and “own” their own lives, or they could live and serve another. They had no other options for they had come to the end of their own resources.
The question to me was when are you going to give all of your life? My heart fell but I knew what God was asking me. It is easy to live in your own strength and “do” life with your own wisdom, but it always ends badly. One month the Spirit is guiding me step by step and the next month and I am in a hurry to complete everything with the Spirit’s help.
“Oh God, I don’t need your help to accomplish great or small things, I am your servant – your slave – tell me what to do and I will do it. Speak clearly to me and correct me quickly if I hear you inaccurately. I hate spinning my wheels and getting stressed out, forgive me for sliding back to live life with you and not for you. Be my strength and my song, my rock and my joy, and I will live for you.”
