January 25

Acts 1:7-8 (NIV)
7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

The disciples, after all the things Jesus taught and spoke to them still wanted to know when Rome would be overthrown. Maybe, if we are generous, we could say they wanted to know when the Messianic Kingdom would be. The point is this, if Jesus wanted to tell them, they would have known! Jesus was talking about the most important thing since His resurrection from the dead - the gift of the Holy Spirit! The most important Kingdom had already been set up - the Kingdom of God's reign - The Kingdom of Heaven. They were still looking for the earthly Kingdom. Jesus was saying, among other things, don't worry about that Kingdom, you won't know the particulars about it anyway, keep your mind fixed on the Kingdom of God and the rule and reign in the spirit realm which I am about to give you the enduring ability (power) to advance! Never mind when you are going to get (blank) or when (blank)

  1. This is the verse that jumped out at me too. I think because I'm so impatient and always wishing God would show me what is going to happen next! He has shown me over and over that His timing is perfect and I still don't trust. I still try to make things happen myself instead of waiting for His good and perfect plan to be revealed.

    This also reminds me of this verse:

    Phillipians 4:8-9 - Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me — put it into practice.

    Focus on what God has already provided us. Why does that never seem to be enough?
